The meetings was called to order at 7:30
Andrea Erickson, the children's librarian: Laurel Library presents:
* 18-1/2 hours of literacy training [figured provided 2/26] to 400 children per month;
*They are hoping to add a sign-language story time;
*There is a monthly class for children from Duckworth, a center for children with special issues, usually physical. Don't get good attendance;
*April is Autism Awareness month. Plan to have programs in 2009, perhaps starting parent support groups, film, etc.;
*May want to put on an American Girls program.
Programs under consideration:
*A bridge club at the library. There is a Bridge Club of Laurel and the American Bridge Assiciation has a program. FOLL might be asked to purchase cards and refreshments.
*There will be a six-month arts & crafts program featuring different crafts.
*A safety series covering the Internet, personal and fire safety, perhaps presented for both children and adults.
*Earth Day
*A three-session disaster program has been approved by the National Weather Service. Books set during disasters would be featured.
*Fliers are being produced for the memoir program in May.
*Mike Walls and Bobby Walters will appear April 13 for National Library Week. FOLL will pay fees.
The Library has run out of room for non-English books. The next language to be collected will be Arabic; won out over Hindi.
The Citizens for Maryland Libraries is giving a $1,000 grant to increase involvement in libraries. Andrea Erickson took the flyer.
No definite news about the new library.
The minutes were approved. The treasurer's report was presented. We need an IRS form W-9 to accompany our request for a grant from Tom Dernoga.

*Approximately 20 people attended the program on the Muirkirk ironworks;
*There are no fees for the Main Street Fair, library will have a booth;
*Will purchase TV approved at last meeting and present bill to Friends, should present proof of tax-exempt status;
*Last month FOLL approved a donation to the Maryland Library Association, PGFOL does not contribute.
No date was set for the next meeting.
